Frequently asked questions about Misiones

What is Misiones province known for?

The jungle, the red earth and the Paraná and Uruguay rivers. It is the greenest province in Argentina: Iguazú Falls, the Moconá Falls, the Jesuit ruins of San Ignacio, yerba mate and an immigrant culture from half the world, bordering Brazil and Paraguay.

What are 10 tourist spots in Misiones?

1 Iguazú Falls · 2 Moconá Falls · 3 San Ignacio Miní ruins · 4 Salto Encantado · 5 Teyú Cuaré Provincial Park · 6 Wanda mines · 7 Posadas riverfront · 8 Oberá and the Park of Nations · 9 Santa Ana and Loreto ruins · 10 Triple Frontier landmark in Puerto Iguazú. All of them are on the map, with directions and places to stay nearby.

When is the best time to visit Misiones?

All year round. Autumn (April–May) and spring (September–November) have pleasant temperatures and less rain; winter (June–August) is mild and dry, ideal for walking the Falls; summer (December–March) is very hot and humid, but the falls carry more water. The Moconá Falls are only visible when the Uruguay river is low: the river level is on the map.

What is the weather like in Misiones? When is it cold and which months are the rainiest?

Subtropical with no dry season: strong heat from December to March (30–38 °C), cool from June to August (lows of 8–12 °C and some frost in the centre of the province) and rain all year, peaking in October–November and March–April. The Weather button on the map shows the 7-day forecast for each region.

What are the typical food, drink and dessert of Misiones?

Food: chipa, reviro, mbeyú, sopa paraguaya, river fish such as surubí and pacú, and the dishes of the colonies (strudel, pierogi, pasta). Drink: mate and, in the heat, tereré, both with Misiones yerba. Sweets: papaya preserve, rapadura and cane honey, and lemon verbena preserve. On the map, the "Where to eat" menu shows where to try them.
